4 mile round trip out and back hike along the Siera Canyon Trail in Genoa Nevada, the first settlement founded in 1851, at the southwestern end of Carrson Valley. The terrain, flora, and fauna on the eastern side of the valley is completely different. Hiking westward about 30 miles into the mountains is the California state line.
The economy is definitely haywire, which means truck loads are going through it. But I am totally happy to sit around on a layover on the banks of the Truckee River, working on my projects. We are about 20 miles east of where we went hiking yesterday. The differences in the terrain from the east to west side of this valley, right before entering the Sierra Nevada Mountains, are drastic and stunning.
